Prep Strings Registration, 20-21 Season

NOTICE: Due to ongoing uncertainties related to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are asking all students wishing to audition for the Kalamazoo Prep Strings Orchestras to do so remotely.

Audition Instructions:

—Complete the registration form at the bottom of this page
—Auditions for new and returning students will consist of: a pre-recorded video submission of a solo work and scales (see scales required below).
—Video submissions are due by noon on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
—You may upload your video to: YouTube, Drop Box, Google Drive, One Drive, Vimeo, etc., and then share the link with us.
—Make sure that your video is in a sharing/viewing mode that will allow us access from the link you provide.

Auditioning students will be required to:

—Play a solo piece of their choice
—Play scales: CONCERT ORCHESTRA (YOUNGER): Violin, Viola, and Cello students must play two memorized two-octave scales (one-octave scales are not accepted). Bass students must play one two-octave scale and another one-octave scale of their choice. SYMPHONIC STRINGS (ADVANCED): Violin, Viola, and Cello students must play two memorized three-octave scales. Please note that playing a three-octave scale does not guarantee placement into the Prep String Symphonic Strings. Bass students must play two memorized two-octave scales.


Remote rehearsals will be on Monday evenings through April.
— Concert Orchestra – 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
— Symphonic Strings Orchestra – 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
