String, Wind, or Brass Audition

• Perform a solo work which demonstrates a range of techniques and/or 3-4 standard orchestral excerpts
• Sight-reading
• Scales may be asked as well in accordance with MSBOA Proficiency Level 1

Percussion Audition

• Prepare one or more exercises and/or orchestral excerpts on the following instruments:
  • Timpani
  • Snare
  • Marimba or Xylophone
• Performing on all three instruments is preferred. Performing on one or two is acceptable.

Schedule & Commitment

The KJSO plays challenging repertoire in three regular concerts each season, from September to early May, with weekly rehearsals on Sunday afternoons, from 1:30 – 4:30. Dress rehearsals are on Thursday or Friday evenings before performances. Our first rehearsals of the season take place at an overnight camp just outside of Kalamazoo, which we call Tune-up Camp.
